Surfing Lesson Six - Next Steps

Where does your surfing go from here? You've learned how to paddle out, duck diving as you go. You understand what to do out in the lineup, how to effectively position yourself, and how to pop up and go just like a pro, but what's next?

Here are our top three suggestions of where to go with your surfing from here. Practice, travel, and most of all have fun.

Practising Your Board Riding

Practice is the key to getting better at surfing. When out of the water you can work on your fitness, check out the latest moves on the latest surfing DVD, or read a surfing book. Do some background reading on some of the great surfing heroes over the years. Take an interest in the local weather reports so you can be in the water when the best waves are around. Practice, practice and then practice some more. It is the only way you will improve. The better you are surfing, the more you will enjoy it.

Surf Travel

Travel for the waves. Check out new spots, go see and surf places that you have seen in the magazines and the movies. Take a look at some of the surf trip destinations on offer. (We also have a world surf spot map to get you started.) Make new friends at the break down the coast or over the other side of the world. If there is a sport that will make a nomad out of any man, then it is surfing. There are so many places and so little time. Think where you are now, reading this, and think about how many lucky surfers there are at this moment in time scoring epic waves. That surfer could be you. Start saving or just jump in your van and go get some traveling done.

Make sure that wherever you are and whatever level of surfer you are that you have fun while surfing. Surfing is not only a great sport but a great way to spend your free time. Just remember not to let it interfere with your homework!
